If you’ve just booked your first treatment at A Mindful Root, you may be wondering how you can get the most out of your upcoming massage. Many clients today find they are a little nervous before their first massage, but our massage therapist will work with you to calm your nerves and make you feel relaxed throughout your session. Here are a few of our top tips to help you get the most out of your massage.
Before Your Treatment
Leading up to your massage, we encourage you to keep well hydrated during the day before your session. When it’s time for your massage, we welcome open and clear communication between clients and therapists here at A Mindful Root. This helps us to ascertain your needs for the treatment and any concerns or areas of severe pain you may be currently experiencing. We ask you to be honest and open about any medical conditions you are facing, so we can look after you to the best of our ability during your session. During your pre-treatment consultation, we can create a plan for the areas we need to focus on during your treatment so that you get the most out of your massage each time.
During Your Treatment
During the treatment, there’s very little we ask for you to do apart from relax and enjoy yourself. Try to tune out any mental chatter you may find going on and be present in the moment and the sensations you are feeling. The only thing we ask you to do is speak up if the pressure your therapist is applying isn’t to your liking. If you are feeling any pain or discomfort from the pressure, it’s important you speak up to avoid any damage or intense pain following the session.
On the other hand, if the pressure is too light, we also welcome you to share your feelings so that the massage meets your expectations and relieves your areas of tension. We know that some clients feel quite nervous during their first massage, but we encourage you just to rest your body and mind and enjoy every moment of the time you’ve put aside to look after yourself.
After Your Treatment
After your massage, don’t rush getting up from the massage table and take your time to reawaken your mind and return to your regular life. If you can, try to take some time off from work or other activities following your session. Many clients find they need a couple of hours to rest following the treatment, but you may also feel a lot more energized. If you are feeling particularly tense in any areas still, discuss this with your therapist, who will be able to offer you after-care advice. Most importantly, ensure you keep drinking a lot of water following your massage, to help flush out any toxins that were released during the treatment.
At A Mindful Root, we work to make all of our clients feel relaxed during every treatment with our team. We encourage you to clearly and openly communicate with your massage therapist, which will ensure you get everything you expected out of your treatment. Without communication before, during, and after the session, it’s hard for a therapist to know how you are finding the massage and to understand your areas of concern. We will work with you to guide you through the treatment, and you’ll hopefully leave feeling rested and far less tense than when your massage started.
